Clinical Guidelines on Assessment, Evaluation and Treatment of Overweight and Obese Patients: What Providers Need to Know. is part of the Bench to Bedside Video/CD-ROM Series for clinicians.  At the conclusion of this activity, the learner will be able to:
• Explain the increased health risks associated with an increase in overweight and obesity in the population and identify the critical elements, e.e., body mass index cut-points for overweight and obesity, high risk waist circumference measures and the cardiovascular risk factors that need to be considered when assessing a patient’s health status as defined in the Clinical Obesity Guidelines Evidence Report.
• Describe the treatment algorithm used to assess, classify and treat overweight and obese patients
• Identify the various treatment options of dietary therapy, physical activity, behavior, pharmaocotherapy and surgery and how to match them to your patient
• Describe practical strategies and educational tools to help implement treatment options successfully over the long term.
• Explain the extent of overweight and obesity in special populations and the cultural diversity of special population groups when dealing with issues of body weight
• Identify some strategies for tailoring obesity treatment to special populations
