Objectives for Asthma in Children
Describe the different phenotypes of wheezy syndromes during
the first fives years of life
Explain how early onset of asthma affects symptoms during childhood and into
early adult life
Explain the background and rationale for The Childhood Asthma Management
Program (CAMP) clinical trial
Describe the results of CAMP for both asthma symptoms and pulmonary function
Describe the unexpected finding of CAMP and the implications of the result for
clinical practice
Describe growth velocity differences between CAMP children treated with
inhaled steroid compare to placebo
Explain the safety profile of asthma therapy regarding somatic development
including growth, sexual maturation and bone density
List some common barriers to clinician-patient communication and to patient
adherence to treatment
Use ten communication skills that enhance patient teaching and identification
of barriers to adherence
